    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Welcome to the website for the IBEW Local 481

Date Added: 1/31/2012

Brothers and Sisters, this is Sean Seyferth, Business Manager of IBEW Local 481. As I said in yesterday's message we will gather at the statehouse tomorrow at noon for a rally. There will then be a march from the south lawn to Lucas Oil Stadium. The hearing, with the final vote to follow, could begin as early as 9am. I am calling on all members to drop your tools and join us at the Statehouse at either or at both times. We are in need of maximum participation.

Again I would ask that anyone working on a Project Labor Agreement site to stay on the job, as we have agreed to no work stoppages on these projects.

In Solidarity,

Sean J. Seyferth
Business Manager/Financial Secretary

Brothers and Sisters, this is Sean Seyferth, Business Manager of IBEW Local 481. Despite all our efforts to defeat the Right to Work Legislation through lobbying, letter writing, phone calls and weeks of demonstrations, it appears our message has not been heard. The final vote is set for this Wednesday, February 1st . I am calling on all members to drop your tools and join us at the Statehouse at noon.

Again I would ask that anyone working on a Project Labor Agreement site to stay on the job, as we have agreed to no work stoppages on these projects.

Monday Update

Brothers and Sisters:

RTW4L will be heard in a Senate Committee hearing on Monday, January 30 at 9:00 AM in Room 431 of the Indiana Statehouse. PLEASE BE THERE!!!! Since this is a committee hearing we are not asking that you lay down your tools....however, WE DO NEED A LARGE CROWD!!!!!!

In the meantime, contact your Senator by phone, email or in person and express to them how important it is that they vote NO on RTW4L. The number for the Senate switchboard is 1-800-382-9467. Also, their email address is s(plus their district number)@in.gov. Example: s36@in.gov.

Also, contact your contractors and ask them to reach out to their Senator. They need to tell their Senators that they don't need or want the government to tell them what is good for their company. They want the "freedom" to make that choice on their own!

Thank you for your continued support.

In Solidarity,
Sean J. Seyferth

Right to Work for Less Bill Passes the Indiana House

The House Right to Work for Less Bill, House Bill 1001, passed the Indiana House this evening. The votes was 54-44.<--Click to view Roll Call.

Please send a special thank you to those five Republicans that stuck with us through thick and thin, despite all the pressure. These True Friends of Labor are Reps. Ron Bacon, Tom Dermody, Mike Karickhoff, Tom Saunders, and Ed Soliday.<-- Click to email

Now the battle moves to the Senate. We may only have one week left to stop the ban on union security agreements. It is important that we maintain constant statehouse presence this Thursday and Friday, and Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. We anticipate the scheduling of House (SB 269) and Senate (HB 1001) hearings yet this week.

Please see the Senate Roll Call for SB 269 to learn who we must work.

We need to call them, email them, write them, and stop by their houses to visit them!

Sean J. Seyferth

As you are aware, Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma and Senate President Pro-tem David Long have made "Right to Work" the number one issue for the 2012 Legislative session. We are asking for all members to contact their legislators via email, phone, personal letters or best of all, in person.

We have been meeting with many Republican Legislators over the last several months in order to educate them on this issue. It is surprising to find how little they know about the issue. That is why it is so important for you to reach out to your Representatives as soon as possible. I have included below, a link to the Indiana AFL-CIO which has a RTW Tool-Kit that contains some very useful information and talking points. In the Tool-Kit, you will also find a link to find your Legislator.

Thank you in advance for your help and feel free to contact the Local Union for more information.
